An exclusive design collaboration between Closed and VIU eyewear.
Both brands combine their drive for exceptional quality and design as well as their distinct passion for bringing audacious ideas to life
in two remarkable sunglasses:
THE IDEALISTE and THE OPTIMISTE.
“Collaborating was a logical step because we both pay attention to detail and pour a lot of passion into our products,” says Closed proprietor Gordon Giers.
So what exactly does VIU stand for and who is behind the glasses? We talked to VIU designer and co-founder, Fabrice Aeberhard.
Fabrice, is it true that the whole thing between VIU and Closed started with a nearby shop?
Yes, that’s true! And we’ll have stores right next to one another in Dortmund soon too. We obviously feel at home in the same places. But there were other reasons for our collaboration too ...
Tell us more!
I had had my eye on Closed for some time, but not with any clear goal in mind. We share similar values though and develop, design and sell our products in the same way: we value craftsmanship, our designs focus on function and we love details.
Are there differences as well?
The biggest difference between us is time: VIU was launched in late 2013, so we’re just over five years old. You could say Closed is a role model for us, both in terms of its designs but also because it doesn’t blindly follow trends. Instead, it maintains its own clear identity over the course of years and decades.
So what was it like, working together?
Sadly, partnerships are often one-sided. It was very different with Closed: they shared ideas, a certain mood and specific suggestions with us right from the start. That meant we came up with the designs really quickly: it was incredibly dynamic. It’s fantastic to work like that!
The result is a spring/summer eyewear collection ...
... and people who wear these glasses will turn heads. We chose bold colours. Some of the glasses make a classic, iconic statement, but you can also choose the same model in a really eye-popping colour for a cool, trendy look. We’ve got two basic models – Optimiste and Idealiste – but it’s still a varied collection thanks to all the different colour combinations.
Which glasses would you recommend for a cool, sophisticated look?
I would go for the Idealiste model in a striking colour to make a bold fashion statement!
And which ones for classic elegance?
The Optimiste style in a cherry-wood effect, which underlines the wearer’s femininity really well.
